#31 Mapping

It could be really fun to use the mapping features to make a map of all the places you have visited. It is an excellent way to help out of town guests feel more comfortable, and it makes life easier when you know where you are going.

I have indeed placed items on the S drive before so I will not have to repeat that experience. I will have to double check my Z drive to make sure that I do not have any personal photos there, but I know that there are no personal photos of mine on the s or p drives.
I have looked over a lot of my files and deleted a few, moved a few around.
I do try to keep my files fairly well organized especially those on the p drive. So many people use that drive and some of the same files that I use so anything that I do to it may effect others. Every so often I will reorganize and delete old files.
I believe the oldest file that I have is from when I started working at HCPL.

Email. I keep a lot of it. But reading this iHCPL has inspired me to trash a lot of it. Even before this assignment I did and will continue to regularly purge my trash and snet files. Now I just need to work more on not keeping as many non-essential things.
So, I did go through my various folders trashing what was no longer essential, out-of date, or just plain no longer useful. I found that it did lower my usage quota quite a bit. But I try to keep my quota at 30% or lower at all times!
I will be keeping up with my email as per normal and hope to keep my percentage at 20-25% or lower.

In theory the GTD system works. And probably works in practice as well. It seems to be comprised of some basic theories that most people probably instinctively know. I found it interesting that in the Process section he mentions to never put anything back into "in" yet a few lines down it is mentioned that if the item is not something that you can do right away that you should "defer it." Well to me, that is practically the same thing. When I defer something in my email for later, I usually mark the item as not yet read, so that I will remember to go back, read it again, and accomplish whatever is necessary.

As backward as it may seem, I keep track of my appointments, projects, and all sorts of other stuff in a general old, write it down, take it with me, calendar. It seems to work for me. I have on occasion looked into using the online calendars and list makers but half the time it seems asinine to me. If you do not have an online accessible device with you at all times, you can only access it when you are near a computer. Otherwise you will have to print out your list or calendar...which is pretty much the same as having a paper/written calendar anyways.
At the same time, I do like some of the features of online calendars like pop-up reminders and such. I may try to use the google calendar a little bit and see how I like it.
As for now, I organize with my calendar and as things come up I prioritize by what seems to have the most importance, the earliest "due date," or whatever someone I may be working with needs done the most.

Okay so the idea that you can create your own song is pretty neat. I do love music and can even play an instrument or two (although it has been a long while since lessons), but even being able to play music does not make me good at creating/writing my own songs. It was fun but tricky because I did not remember what all of the notes sounded like until I put them into the JamStudio application and it sounded really really bad!

I did like some of the applications to add your music to your social network account. I thought it was a good idea...now if only I used the accounts I have had there for ages!

Burning CDs seems like something that I have been doing for ages and ages now.
So I did not redo it. I do still sometimes burn CDs although not nearly as often as I used to. Especially and things have changed with the laws and rules. I do still use CDs in my car and such. It is still a viable resource for me, although I do use other mediums for music as well.

Concerning the music sharing, I am not certain as to which side of the line I fall on. On one hand I can see the point of many musicians of not wanting their music to be freely available to the public. They have worked hard and deserve to be compensated for their work. On the other hand, part of what almost every single artist always says is how they want to share their art and have it be out there. In fact, many musicians and groups are now offering or have offered their music for free. There was a group that had their CD available for download and the consumer only had to pay what they thought it was worth, whether that was 1 cent or $100.00.

Because I, like most others, do not like to be parted from my money I think music should be free!!;-)

I download music all the time. Sometimes I buy if from the iTunes store, othertimes I use one of the free online music sharing websites.
At one point I looked into buying songs from other vendors and online sites, but for the most part, I have found that I don't need to expend all that much effort. I cannot really think of even one time that the iTunes store didn't have what I wanted to purchase. Years ago, I used to use Napster, but that was when it was free!!!

On occasion I will listen to some music from a radio station on my computer. Sometimes if I am in a room without my iPod speakers I will listen to 99.1 or something like that.
