Week 10 #23 THE END

Well, what a journey it has been. Through thick and thin, power outages and server meltdowns, we have finished and survived to tell the tale.
There were moments that, even though I consider myself tech savvy (wink wink), gave me issues but overall it was a fun and easy experience. It was nice to be able to help colleagues if they needed it and to receive help in return.
I definitely learned about things that I had not used before, like Zoho. There were other applications and things that I did know about but had no reason to look at previously that I was able to learn about. Which, even though I still don't think that I will use them, was a neat experience.
It was really nice to see some HCPL staff members really get into this project and there were some great and insightful commentaries on blogs.

It was fun, glad it's done!

Week 9 #22 Downloadable Media

The first thing that I looked at in the HCPL digital catalog was the music section. I was pretty disappointed in it to be honest. There was a pretty limited selection of genres. There was no country, rock, alternative....nothing new.
I did think that the series started collection was an interesting one. That gives people a good jumping off point to get interested in a whole new series.
Otherwise, I think that HCPL has a fairly decent setup with quite a few books. There are some genres that are lacking, but hopefully those will pick up with time.

Week 9 #21 Podcasts

Not really into podcasts. I haven't ever gone looking for one. I have listened to a few that have been directed my way. It's just usually not interesting stuff to me.
I was looking at a co-workers blog and she mentioned the SirsiDynix site does podcasting. That could be useful for training.

Week 9 # 20 YouTube

I had to choose this video. It has been talked about so much all over the place. I don't have any particular political or social commentary about it. I just like it and think that it is hilarious.

Now, I am not generally a YouTube fanatic. It's not that I don't like the site, I think that it is fine. I just generally don't take the time to go on there and poke around. I just don't remember to. If I hear about something or a friend tells me about a specific item...then I will take a look. I can see that it might have some applicable options for the library, storytimes and whatnot. In short, YouTube is O.K.

Week 8 # 19 Web based Apps

Zoho is actually an interesting tool.

Interesting options. I think that I prefer Microsoft Word because of my familiarity with it. However, since I do love technology, I need to play with this a little bit more. It might actually have something great. I took a quick look at the planner function thinking that it might be eminently helpful. However, I usually like to have a calendar page look to my schedules and so far I haven't found that in the Zoho planner.

* By the way, in case you couldn't tell...what i wrote above was written in the Zoho application and then published here to my blog.

Week 8 #18 Social Networking

I have been using some of these social networking sites for a while now. I guess I am just really not that into them. Don't get me wrong. I love technology and everything that encompasses, I just haven't ever really gotten into the social networking sites. I have used My Space much more than any of the others, but have used Facebook as well.
On the My Space site, I know many people who have added music and graphic and all sorts of other things. I guess I just never spent any time at all messing with that. I go there on occasion to hook up with some friends and see what is going on in their lives. Or I am nosy and try to see what is going on with people I went to school with even if I never really liked them.

Maybe I will mess with my My Space account some now. Perk it up a bit.
Or maybe not. I guess it will be a wait and see type of thing.

Week 7 #17

Technology...I love it! It is one of my most favorite things ever. Even when I am constantly called over (at home and at work) to explain the vagueries and intricacies of it to those uninformed masses, I still like technology. I know for a fact that I am not even the most technologically savy person at my branch, but I am not too far down there.
I love new stuff that comes out. I don't always acquire the new stuff, especially the brand new stuff (ex. Apple iPhone). Some of the latest and greatest are not always so great. They need a few thousand people to work the bugs out of them before I am willing to give them a shot.

Sigh...I just don't know if I could live without going online at least once a day. KIDDING!
Seriously though, I do usually find myself online at least 2-3 times a day (when not at work). In general, if I was away somewhere on vacation I would not be on the computer at all. I would be out seeing the things to see and doing the things to do.

Wrapping it all up, I love me some technology!
